Spanish Regular Verbs

In this lesson you will learn how to conjugate Spanish Regular Verbs in the present tense.

 All Spanish verbs are either “regular” or “irregular.” Many Spanish verbs are completely regular, meaning that they follow a specific pattern of conjugation.

In Spanish, there are three categories of verbs. The category is determined by the last two letters of the infinitive:

The infinitive is the base form of the verb, such as to speak, to eat, to live, etc. In Spanish, all infinitives end in -ar, -er, or -ir.

In Spanish, you conjugate verbs by dropping the infinitive ending (AR,ER,IR) and adding a specific ending for each person to the stem of the verb.

In this lesson, we will use three model verbs: hablar (to speak), comer (to eat), and vivir (to live). 


If the subject is I (yo), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -o.

If the subject is you – informal (tú), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -as.

If the subject is he (él), she (ella) or you – formal (usted), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -a.

If the subject is we (nosotros/nosotras), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -amos.

If the subject is they (ellos/ellas) or you-all – (ustedes), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -an.




If the subject is I (yo), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -o.

If the subject is you – informal (tú), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -es.

If the subject is he (él), she (ella) or you – formal (usted), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -e.

If the subject is we (nosotros/nosotras), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -emos.

If the subject is they (ellos/ellas) or you-all – (ustedes), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -en.

If the subject is he (él), she (ella) or you – formal (usted), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -e.

If the subject is we (nosotros/nosotras), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -imos.

If the subject is they (ellos/ellas) or you-all – (ustedes), conjugate by dropping the ending and add -en.


So, this is the chart that show us the endings for all these groups of regular Verbs.


Remember the AR Verbs represent about 80% of all the Verbs that you’re going to encounter.

Notice that the three groups of Verbs have the same endings for the first person singular form.

You can also see that the endings for ER and IR Verbs are identical, except for the first person plural form. The nosotros form.

Once you know these endings, you can figure out the conjugation for any Spanish regular verb.

Examples:

- Mis amigos hablan varios idiomas

My friends speak several languages.

- Yo como pan todos los días.

I eat bread every day.

- Mi madre vive en California.

My mother lives in California.

Plural Nouns in Spanish

Today we are going to learn how to make Spanish nouns plural. Just as in English, in Spanish there are nouns that name one thing (singular nouns), and nouns that name more than one thing (plural nouns) To make a singular noun plural, all you need to do is to look at the last letter in the word. Why? Because, Spanish singular to plural are formed by adding specific ends to the nouns. So, in this lesson you will find the basic rules for making nouns plural in Spanish. If the word ends in a vowel (a,e,i,o,u), just add the letter "s" at the end of the word. For nouns that end in these specific stressed vowels: í and ú we may add both "es" or "s" If the word ends in a consonant we must add "es" at the end of the word to make it plural. Today's lesson is about Spanish Subject Pronouns. La lección de hoy trata sobre los pronombres personales en español. A subject pronoun is a word   that takes the place of a noun as the subject of a sentence. For the plural pronouns, if the group referred to is all male, use the masculine ending: nosotros / ellos. If it is a mix of male and female, use the masculine ending too: nosotros / ellos If it is all female, use the feminine ending: nosotras / ellas. Juan, Pedro y Ana escuchan música. Today we are going to learn the Spanish Noun Gender.  Hoy aprenderemos el género del sustantivo en español.  In Spanish, all nouns are either masculine or feminine and singular or plural. But, how do you know the gender of a noun? If you want to be sure, you have to learn them by heart. Spanish Expression: Mi media Naranja

Today we are going to learn a very common Spanish expression: Mi Media Naranja. This phrase is informal, it has an humorously and affectionate tone, similar to "my better half". This expression comes from Plato's Symposium, where Aristophanes told that originally humans were spherical like oranges, they  were double (man-woman, woman, woman, and man-man),  they had two opposite faces on the same head, four arms and four legs that they used to move by rolling, . Today we are going to learn the definite articles in Spanish.  Hoy aprenderemos los artículos definidos en español.  Definite articles are used to talk about specific nouns. In Spanish, nouns are often accompanied by articles. Spanish articles indicate: the word's gender (masculine or feminine ) the word's number (singular or plural )   In English the definite article is the word "the" regardless of wheter the noun it introduces is singular or plural. But in Spanish there are four forms: el, la, los, las, depending on wheter the noun is masculine, feminine, singular or plural.
